New experiences and opportunities…

”So never lose an opportunity of urging a practical beginning, however small, for it is wonderful how often in such matters the mustard-seed germinates and roots itself.” –Florence Nightingale
I have never thought about writing a blog, probably because I always thought I never had any thing of importance to say. However I have learned that it’s not always about what we say needing to make an importance or a change, its about creating a space to share ideas, allow for feedback from others, and a partnership for experience.

why have i started a blog? – I am currently studying Mental Health Nursing PGDip at Kings College London, and opted to take an extra module of the Kings Post Graduate Leadership Award. To be a nurse having leadership qualities is a key and valuable skill I wish to learn. Mental health is in the forefront at present with more people discussing and sharing stories trying to break the stigma. I wish that with this blog I can reflect on the leadership module I will be taking but also on how I can intergrate it with Mental heatlh awareness in my nursing practice.
The blog will aim to detail my experiences, the people I meet, the skills and knowledge I acquire along the journey and further where it will take me. I hope to ask questions and spark topics of interest. Further, I hope I can contribute to the contination of leading the postive changes regarding Mental Health awareness. As Part of the NMC (2015) Code of Conduct for Nurses to promote professionalism and trust a nurse should be a model of integrity and leadership for others to aspire to. This then leads to trust and confidence in the professions from patients, people receiving care, other health and care professionals and the public. I hope I can create trust and allow my nursing skills to inspires those I care for and to them lead back on he path they need to follow.
